The best "little" lobster roll in New England

One of the things that helped me & RRR cross the finish line Sunday at the 34th Annual Falmouth Road Race was the thought of eating what I was told was going to be the best lobster roll I will ever have in my life at the Raw Bar in Mashpee!

So after an hour's worth of running, we put up with an hour's worth of post-race Falmouth traffic and headed over to the marketplace in Mashpee. It was a quaint "village" of boutiques, pizzerias, miniature golf, an ice cream shop, etc. And in the center of this marketplace was a nondescript bar with a screen door that opened up to a cluster of umbrella-covered picnic tables... Raw Bar!

The place was jammed with locals and tourists-in-the-know (not unusual on a beautiful Sunday afternoon on the Cape) and was obvious that people were here for one reason and one reason only - LOBSTER ROLL!

We debated sharing one, but exhaustion and hunger won out and we ordered two. At $23 each it may not seem like a bargain, however, there was substantially more lobster meat than in any lobster roll I've ever had in New York at Mary's Fish Camp and the Mermaid Inn, just to name a few.
Don't ask me what made this roll so magically delicious but it was indisputably the best lobster roll I've ever had. It was comprised of a blend of tails, claws, knuckle meat you'd usually find in a lobster roll, bound with just enough mayonnaise to hold it together without weighing it down, and served in an open (but not buttered) roll which would be impossible to eat after consuming that much lobster. (If you have... kudos!)

I found myself completely immersed in the pure enjoyment of my New England classic, so much so that it was hard to socialize with D, S & S's entourage of sisters who came to dine post-race as well. It's just that damn good!

The meat was sweet, fresh and firm and without any celery or seasoning to put anything between you and your lobster! The serving would have been suitable for two to share and I found myself devouring every last bite even though I was beyond satiated ---- I came too far and ran too hard to not eat every last morsel.

I think I am going to have to revisit Mary's, Mermaid and probably hit Pearl Oyster Bar in New York soon to compare but I am pretty certain I have been spoiled from this moment on and will wind up disappointed. It certainly gives me something to look forward to for the 35th Falmouth Road Race next year!
